Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the pie chart and the table. You successfully identified the main features, such as the majority of graduates being in full-time work and the salary distribution across different sectors. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing data points rather than synthesizing them into a cohesive comparison. For instance, while you mention the salary percentages, the comparison between sectors could be more analytical. To improve, focus on grouping data to highlight trends rather than just listing figures, and ensure the overview clearly captures the most significant differences between the sectors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the chart and table, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'According to', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude', which help the flow. However, some transitions are slightly repetitive or mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences within the paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the transition between the salary ranges and the sector comparisons in the second paragraph of the table analysis is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey the information, using terms like 'undergraduate degree', 'freelance consultants', and 'salary ranges'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'table chart' (redundant), 'employ salary' (should be 'employment salary' or 'salary of employees'), and 'people who done' (should be 'people who have done'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. Examples include 'majority of students about 52% is a full time workers' (subject-verb agreement and article errors), '4% less than it were doing' (awkward phrasing), and 'Private companies employs percentage' (incorrect possessive/plural usage). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the data. To reach a higher band, you need to improve your control over subject-verb agreement, articles, and pluralization.
