Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing both the pie chart and the table. You successfully identified the main features, such as the dominance of full-time work and the salary disparities between sectors. However, the analysis is somewhat limited. For instance, when discussing the table, you mention that private sector employees earned the lowest income, but you do not provide specific data points to support this comparison. Additionally, the statement that '5% of independent workers and government servants were earning $25,000 to $49,999 respectively' is slightly confusing in its phrasing. To reach a higher band, ensure that all key features are supported by accurate data from the prompt and that comparisons are made more explicitly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Looking at the pie chart', and 'Turning to the table' to guide the reader through the information. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct data sets. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'while table provides' missing an article. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the information is presented in a way that is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'alumni', 'freelance consultant', and 'white collar jobs'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'least amount of individuals' (should be 'fewest number') and 'government servants' (which is not the standard term for government employees). Additionally, there are minor errors like 'Th pie chart' (spelling) and 'accounting for more than 50% of the alumni' (where 'alumni' refers to the people, not the percentage). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the opening sentence and the comparison in the second paragraph. However, there are several grammatical slips throughout the text. For example, 'while table provides' lacks an article, 'freelance consultant' should be plural ('freelance consultants'), and 'earning lowest income' requires an article ('the lowest'). There is also a missing article in 'in comparison to private sector'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on article usage and subject-verb agreement.
