Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear or accurate summary of the data. The introduction is confusing and grammatically flawed, making it difficult to understand what the charts represent. While some figures are mentioned, the analysis is disjointed and lacks a logical comparison between the two distinct datasets (destinations vs. salaries). Key features, such as the trends in salary over time, are not clearly identified or explained. The response lacks a clear overview, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. The information provided is often inaccurate or poorly linked to the visual data, resulting in a failure to fully address the requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay lacks a logical flow. While there are some attempts at paragraphing and the use of cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore', these are used mechanically and often incorrectly. The progression of ideas is disjointed, and the relationship between sentences is frequently unclear. Referencing is weak, and the transition between the discussion of graduate destinations and salary fluctuations is abrupt. The overall structure is confusing, which hinders the reader's ability to follow the information presented.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The range of vocabulary is very limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'graduation era' and 'destination of anthropology graduates... across the salaries'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe data, relying on repetitive and basic language. Some phrases are unintelligible due to poor word order and incorrect usage, which significantly impacts the clarity of the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, punctuation, and subject-verb agreement. For example, 'I will mentioned' is incorrect, and many sentences are fragmented or run-on. The use of complex structures is attempted but consistently results in errors, such as 'the type of employment which remains steady in the fields of freelance consultants and government sector their salaries are around about 5%'. The lack of control over basic grammar makes the text difficult to read.
