IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The chart below shows what Anthropology graduates from one university did after finishing their undergraduate degree course. The table shows the salaries of the anthropologists in work after five years.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparison where relevant.

Student answer (Band 4.5)

The bar graph illustrates the proportion of adults of distinct age groups in the UK who accessed the internet everyday between 2003 and 2006.

Overall, it is readily apparent that although the highest percentage of internet users was recorded among young adults, the lowest figure was seen in 65+ age group. Meanwhile, an increasing trend was witnessed in the proportion of 25–44 year old internet users.

To begin with, an identical percentage of adults aged 16–24 years used internet in 2003 and 2004, which was 80%, while this figure surged significantly to 100% by 2005 before dropping to almost 90%. Additionally, the figure for 25–44 year old age group escalated continuously from approximately 50% in 2003 to 80% in 2006.

Moreover, in 45–54 age group, 60% of internet users was noticed in 2003, whereas this figure rose slightly to nearly 70% in 2004 and reached a peak of 80% by 2006. However, nearly 30% of 55–64 age group had internet access in first three years after which the figure soared rapidly to about 50% in 2006. Similarly, minimum proportion of senior age group utilised internet, which ranged from approximately 15% to 20% in the given years (2004, 2005 and 2006). Even though in 2003, they did not have the internet access.
