Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of both the chart and the table, providing a clear overview of graduate destinations and salary distributions. You included relevant data points to support your descriptions. However, the report could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the categories rather than listing them sequentially. For instance, noting that the government sector offers the highest proportion of top-tier salaries compared to private companies would strengthen the analysis. Ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed, as there are minor inconsistencies in the reporting of percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the chart and table, and a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'Turning over to', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within the second paragraph could be improved by grouping related data more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'undergraduate degree', 'postgrad study', and 'freelance consultants' correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'what Anthropology graduates... had done with their undergraduate degree course' and 'the rest which are not known'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding repetitive sentence structures. Expanding your vocabulary to include more varied ways of describing trends and proportions would enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that occasionally affect the flow. For example, 'The chart and table illustrates' should be 'illustrate' (subject-verb agreement), and 'the majority of destination' should be 'the majority of destinations'. Additionally, some sentences lack articles or have awkward preposition usage, such as 'As for the three sectors had 15%-40%'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
