Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to provide a clear or accurate summary of the data. The text is highly repetitive, with large sections of the essay appearing twice, which indicates a lack of planning and editing. While the student attempts to describe the pie chart and table, the information is presented in a fragmented, confusing manner. Key features are not clearly identified, and the comparisons made are often mathematically incoherent or difficult to follow. The response does not adequately address the task requirements to report main features and make relevant comparisons, resulting in a disorganized presentation of the provided data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks logical progression. The repetition of entire paragraphs significantly disrupts the flow of information. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and often incorrect way, such as the abrupt transition 'Moving towards the detail'. Paragraphing is present but ineffective because the content within the paragraphs is redundant and poorly structured. The lack of a clear introduction and the disjointed nature of the sentences make it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's intent, resulting in a failure to organize ideas coherently.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is limited and often used inaccurately. Phrases like 'data is calibrated into percentage' and 'gives illustrate information' are awkward and demonstrate a lack of control over academic register. There is significant repetition of basic terms, and the student struggles to use precise language to describe statistical trends or categories. The errors in word choice and the repetitive nature of the text impede communication, as the reader must struggle to interpret the intended meaning behind the poorly phrased descriptions of the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often distort meaning. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the rates is 50%'), incorrect sentence structures, and misuse of articles and prepositions. The range of structures is very limited, relying mostly on simple, error-prone sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the overall lack of grammatical control makes the text difficult to read. The frequent repetition of incorrect structures further highlights a lack of grammatical flexibility and accuracy.
