Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the data. The description of the chart is fragmented and contains significant inaccuracies, such as misinterpreting the percentages and categories. For example, the claim that '80% are more than 75% dollar' is confusing and does not reflect the data provided. The summary lacks a logical selection of main features, and the comparison between sectors is poorly executed, making it difficult for the reader to grasp the key trends. The response needs to focus on identifying the most significant data points rather than listing figures in a disorganized manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often inappropriate, such as 'On the first hand' and 'On the second hand,' which are not standard academic phrases. Referencing is often unclear, and the transition between the two charts is abrupt. The lack of clear signposting makes the information difficult to follow. To improve, you should use more natural linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus that contributes to the overall summary of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as 'chat' instead of 'chart,' 'digree' instead of 'degree,' and 'purchase' used incorrectly to describe salary. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends or data points effectively. The repetition of basic terms and the misuse of technical or descriptive language hinder the clarity of the report. You should focus on learning specific vocabulary for describing data, such as 'proportion,' 'fluctuate,' 'majority,' and 'sector,' and ensure you use them in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with sentence structure, such as run-on sentences and missing articles. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, and punctuation is often misused or absent. For instance, '52% students do their full time work' should be '52% of students work full-time.' The range of structures is limited to simple sentences, and attempts at more complex constructions are often grammatically incorrect. Improving basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing prepositions and incorrect verb forms is essential for a higher score.
