Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both the pie chart and the table, but the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the description of salary ranges for freelance consultants is unclear, and the statement regarding the government sector's salary increase is difficult to interpret against the provided data. While the main features are identified, the lack of precision in reporting figures and the incomplete nature of the final sentence (which cuts off) mean that the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to their respective categories and that the summary provides a coherent overview of the trends rather than just listing isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'Moving towards' to introduce a new paragraph, which is not standard academic phrasing. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'To begin with' and 'Lastly', the logical flow is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and unclear references, making the overall cohesion feel disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often used incorrectly. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'tabular represents depicts' (a redundancy) and 'rocket increase' (incorrect collocation). The student struggles to use precise terminology for describing data, relying on repetitive or vague language. While the meaning is generally discernible, the lack of control over academic vocabulary and frequent errors in collocation prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on learning specific phrases for describing trends, such as 'a significant rise' or 'a substantial proportion', would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'this percentage are rocket increase'), incorrect preposition usage, and sentence fragments. The range of structures is limited, and the attempt to use complex sentences often results in errors that obscure the intended meaning. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the final sentence is incomplete, which is a significant issue. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that subject-verb agreement is consistent throughout the text.
