Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of both the chart and the table, providing a clear overview. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, simply listing percentages rather than synthesizing the data effectively. For example, the description of the salary data is confusing; stating '30% to 40% which is approximately $75000 to $100000 plus' misinterprets the visual data, as the chart shows salary ranges, not percentages of employees earning those amounts. To improve, focus on comparing the categories more analytically and ensure the data points are accurately transcribed from the visual prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, and the lack of varied linking words makes the flow feel somewhat disjointed. For instance, the transition between the employment status and the salary section is weak. Improving the use of referencing (e.g., 'the former', 'the latter') and logical connectors would significantly enhance the flow and clarity of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several spelling errors, such as 'illiustrats', 'universtiy', and 'goverment'. Additionally, the phrasing is often simplistic, relying on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends and data, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', or 'remuneration', and ensure that spelling is accurate throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'got full time job'), incorrect verb forms ('graduates salaries'), and punctuation errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters. Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of basic grammatical slips prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors will be beneficial.
