Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main features of both the chart and the table, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You have successfully highlighted the highest and lowest categories, but the comparison of salary data is slightly confusing. For example, stating that 'private companies had the highest percentage between income $25000 to $49999' is a bit vague without explicitly referencing the specific data points. To improve, ensure you provide a more detailed overview and ensure the response meets the length requirement to fully develop your points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into three paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the pie chart, and an analysis of the table. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'In contrast,' and 'However' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. The transition between the pie chart data and the table data is abrupt. To improve, try to use more varied linking phrases and ensure that the progression of ideas is smoother, perhaps by grouping related information more effectively within the paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'undergraduate degree programme,' 'freelance consultants,' and 'government sectors.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'different type of employments' (should be 'types of employment') and 'accounted for the highest share' (which is grammatically awkward in this context). The vocabulary is generally sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Focusing on collocations and more sophisticated reporting verbs would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'part time and post-grad study was the least option' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'percentage between income $25000 to $49999' (prepositional error). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure could be more varied. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage would be beneficial.
