Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the pie chart and the table. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview or synthesis of the data. While you have identified the main features, such as the highest proportion in full-time work and the salary distributions, the reporting is often just a list of figures rather than a comparative analysis. To reach a higher band, you should group the data more effectively and highlight significant trends or contrasts, such as comparing the salary brackets across the three sectors rather than listing them individually. The inclusion of 'not known' in the summary is unnecessary detail that detracts from the main trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure for this task. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes awkward. Phrases like 'On the Flip side' are too informal for an Academic Task 1 response. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is also somewhat disjointed, relying heavily on listing data points rather than using linking words to show relationships between the figures. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using more varied transition signals to guide the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several spelling errors, such as 'Saleries' and 'antropology', and some word choices are repetitive or unnatural, such as 'noticeable consideration' and 'elevated with 15%'. You tend to rely on basic verbs like 'is' or 'has' to describe the data. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', 'fluctuated', or 'a significant proportion', and ensure you proofread for basic spelling accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Both the charts is measured', 'Government sector and Private companies has'), incorrect preposition use, and awkward phrasing ('decreases with 15%'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and hyphens. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
