Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of both the pie chart and the table. You provided a clear overview and selected relevant data points to support your summary. However, the response lacks a clear, logical structure. The description of the pie chart data is somewhat fragmented, and the comparison of salary ranges could be more analytical. To reach a higher band, ensure that you group related data more effectively and provide a more cohesive comparison between the different categories of employment and salary brackets. You have covered all parts of the prompt, but the development of the data comparison is slightly basic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the pie chart data and the salary table is abrupt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Overall' and 'Looking at the chart', but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved by using a wider range of linking words to show relationships between the data points. The referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be more purposeful to separate the two distinct data sets more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the information clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'full time', 'postgraduate study', and 'freelance consultants'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'at side' and 'private company joiners', which are not standard collocations. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends and comparisons, such as 'the majority of', 'a significant proportion', or 'the lowest earners'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'The pie charts presents' (subject-verb agreement), 'those whom we have no data upon' (awkward phrasing), and 'follows as;' (incorrect punctuation). Additionally, the use of the dollar sign after the number ($100,000) is non-standard in English. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and standard punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
