Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover both the chart and the table, but the analysis is significantly flawed. You have misinterpreted the data, specifically by describing percentages as 'workers' (e.g., 'Full time workers had used 52%') rather than describing the proportion of graduates in each category. Furthermore, the description of the salary table is confusing and inaccurate; you state that salaries 'increased and decreased with passage of time,' but the data is a snapshot of salaries after five years, not a longitudinal study. The main features are not clearly highlighted, and the comparison between categories is poorly executed, leading to a failure to provide a clear overview of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is weak. The transition between the chart data and the table data is abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused (e.g., 'While, the salaries...'). The referencing is also unclear; for instance, the phrase 'used 52% of the university' is confusing and does not accurately reflect the data. The structure lacks a cohesive flow, making it difficult for the reader to follow the relationship between the different categories of graduates and their respective salaries.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often used inaccurately. Phrases like 'used 52% of the university' and 'different worked time' are unnatural and impede clarity. There is a lack of precision in describing statistical data; instead of using terms like 'accounted for,' 'represented,' or 'proportion,' you rely on repetitive and incorrect phrasing. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'freelance consultants' and 'government sector,' the overall control is insufficient to convey the information accurately, leading to frequent errors in word choice and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'chart... display their salaries'), tense usage (e.g., 'had increased' when describing static data), and punctuation (e.g., 'While, the salaries...'). The misuse of articles and prepositions is also common. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of grammatical errors and awkward phrasing prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on basic sentence construction and ensuring that your verbs match the tense required for describing data.
