Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is superficial and lacks precision. While you identify that 52% of graduates are in full-time work, you fail to provide a comprehensive overview of the other categories. The description of the table is particularly weak; you mention salary ranges but do not accurately report the data, such as the specific percentages for different salary brackets. The comparison between sectors is vague, using phrases like 'a little less percent' rather than citing the actual figures provided in the table. To improve, ensure you include specific data points to support your observations and avoid generalisations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas effectively. For example, the transition between the pie chart analysis and the table analysis is abrupt. Furthermore, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the comparison between sectors is difficult to follow due to a lack of clear signposting. Using a wider range of linking words would significantly improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'percent', 'work', and 'salary'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'The full time work is significantly done by 52% of graduates' and 'The charts informs us'. These errors occasionally make the text sound unnatural. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'proportion', 'sector', 'remuneration', and 'account for'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations will help you convey information more professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie chart... display', 'The charts informs') and awkward sentence construction. While you attempt some complex ideas, the execution is often flawed, which can occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around periods and commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound before attempting more complex forms. Proofreading for these fundamental errors would be a beneficial exercise.
