Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have attempted to summarize the data, the information provided is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, you state that '52% Anthropology graduates went to full time work' and then list other percentages that do not logically align with the provided chart. Furthermore, the description of the salary table is unclear and fails to make meaningful comparisons between the different employment sectors. To improve, ensure that you accurately transcribe data points and provide a clear, logical overview of the main trends rather than listing isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as 'At a fleeting glance' and 'Moving further,' which do not always fit the context of the data being presented. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack clear logical connections, making it difficult for the reader to follow the analysis. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that contributes to the overall summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'chat' instead of 'chart', 'shoe' instead of 'shows', and 'celibrated' instead of 'calculated'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the information. You rely on basic vocabulary to describe the data, which prevents you from demonstrating the range required for higher bands. To improve, work on using more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'proportion,' 'fluctuation,' or 'significant,' and ensure you proofread your work to correct basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the readability of the text. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'table shoe', 'graduate went'), incorrect article usage, and sentence structure (e.g., 'only Unemployed has left, It made up 8%'). The range of grammatical structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which are necessary to achieve a higher band score. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and punctuation, before attempting more complex structures.
