Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main features of the chart and table, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You have included some data points, but the comparisons between categories are underdeveloped. For instance, the description of salary data is confusing and lacks clarity regarding the specific groups mentioned. Furthermore, there are inaccuracies in the data reporting, such as the mention of 'unemployed' twice with different percentages, which suggests a lack of careful proofreading. To improve, ensure you cover all data points accurately and provide a more cohesive summary of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hampered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. Phrases like 'At a fleeting glance' and 'Moving further' are used, but they do not always connect the ideas effectively. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between the chart and the table is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that transitions smoothly into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'chat' instead of 'chart', 'shoe' instead of 'show', and 'celibrated' instead of 'calculated'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'destinations' and 'freelance consultants', the range is insufficient for a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for data description and ensure you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the professional tone required for this task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'While table shoe the salaries' (missing articles and incorrect verb form) and 'only Unemployed has left' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which limits your ability to demonstrate grammatical control. To improve, practice using a mix of complex sentences and focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with subject-verb agreement, articles, and sentence punctuation.
