Student answer (Band 7.5)
The pie chart shows the destinations of anthropology graduates from one university, while the table gives information about their salaries after five years of work.
Overall, full-time work was the most common destination, whereas the smallest proportion of graduates chose part-time work with postgraduate study. After five years, most freelance consultants and government employees earned $75,000 or more.
According to the pie chart, 52% of anthropology graduates went into full-time work. Part-time work was the second most popular choice, at 15%, followed by unemployment at 12%. The figures for full-time postgraduate study and graduates whose destination was not known were both 8%. Only 5% selected part-time work and postgraduate study.
Looking at the salaries, 40% of freelance consultants earned between $75,000 and $99,999, and another 40% received $100,000 or more. In the government sector, half of the workers earned over $100,000, while 30% earned between $75,000 and $99,999. Private companies had a lower figure for the highest salary group, at 30%. However, 35% of private-sector employees earned $50,000–$74,999.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively addresses both parts of the prompt. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends in the pie chart and the salary table. The selection of data is relevant, and you have made appropriate comparisons, such as contrasting the high-earning potential of freelance consultants and government employees with the private sector. The information is well-supported by the figures provided. To reach the highest band, ensure that all data points are fully integrated into the narrative rather than just listing them, though your current approach is already quite strong and analytical.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear structure. Each paragraph has a distinct focus: the introduction, the overall summary, the pie chart data, and the salary table data. Cohesive devices such as 'while', 'whereas', 'followed by', and 'however' are used effectively to link ideas and create a smooth flow. The progression of information is logical, moving from general observations to specific details. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and referencing is clear throughout the text, making the report very easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic report. Phrases like 'destinations of anthropology graduates', 'proportion of graduates', and 'freelance consultants' are used accurately. The vocabulary is precise and contributes to the professional tone of the response. While the range is sufficient and effective, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or topic-specific synonyms could further enhance the lexical variety. Overall, the vocabulary is used naturally and there are no errors that impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response displays a high level of grammatical control. You have successfully used a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the use of subordinate clauses in the opening sentence and the comparison in the final paragraph. Punctuation is accurate, and there are virtually no grammatical errors. The majority of your sentences are error-free, which indicates a strong command of English grammar. The clarity of your writing is maintained throughout, and the structure supports the logical presentation of the data.
