Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the dominance of full-time work and the salary variations across sectors. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting. For example, you state that freelance consultants earning $75,000-$99,999 and $100,000+ were both 40%, but the chart shows different distributions. Additionally, the comparison of government and private sector salaries is slightly confusing in its phrasing. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are transcribed with absolute precision and that comparisons are logically structured to avoid ambiguity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In terms of', 'Meanwhile', and 'By contrast' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second body paragraph where the connection between the sectors and the specific salary brackets becomes repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct data sets (the pie chart and the table), which helps the overall flow of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'comprised', 'represented', and 'sectors'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'post graduated study' (should be 'postgraduate study') and 'largest salary' (a salary cannot be 'large' in this context; it should be 'highest salary' or 'highest proportion of earners'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire of reporting verbs and descriptive adjectives would improve the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the tables compares' (subject-verb agreement), 'wherease' (spelling), and 'full-time postgrad study and not known were both 8%' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though there are inconsistent spaces around symbols, such as '$ 99,999'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for minor slips would significantly enhance the accuracy of your work.
