Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of both the chart and the table, but the analysis is inconsistent. While the pie chart data is presented clearly, the description of the table is confusing and mathematically inaccurate. For example, the statement '40%, 30%, 25% were in range of 75,000-99,999' is unclear and does not accurately reflect the data provided in the table. Furthermore, the summary lacks a clear synthesis of the relationship between the two data sets. To improve, ensure that figures are reported precisely and that comparisons are made logically rather than just listing numbers.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally misused. For instance, 'On the other hand' is used at the start of the introduction, which is inappropriate as there is no contrast being presented there. Additionally, the transition between the pie chart and the table is abrupt. The progression of ideas within the second paragraph is also difficult to follow due to the repetitive structure of the sentences. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used in the correct context would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision required for a higher band. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'found' and 'job'. Phrases such as 'talking about 100k+' are too informal for an academic report. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'freelance consultant' and 'government sector', the overall range is limited. To achieve a higher score, the student should incorporate more varied and precise academic vocabulary to describe trends and data points, and avoid informal conversational fillers.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'full-time job' (missing article 'a'), 'following by' (should be 'followed by'), and 'in same way' (missing article). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, such as 'went in government sector' instead of 'went into the government sector'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on articles, prepositions, and consistent verb forms would be beneficial.
