Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both the chart and the table, identifying main features and making comparisons. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, the student states that 50% of government sector employees earn $1000.000+, which misinterprets the data provided in the table. Additionally, the summary of the pie chart categories is slightly confusing due to the inclusion of 'unemployed' in the list of destinations. While the main features are identified, the lack of precision in data extraction and the misinterpretation of the table figures prevent a higher score. The overview is present but could be more clearly linked to the specific trends shown in the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In the pie chart', and 'On the other hand' are used to guide the reader. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and grammatical errors, such as 'the employ of government sector'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the pie chart analysis and the table analysis could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within sentences is sometimes mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. There is a reliance on repetitive phrasing, such as 'accounted for' and 'destination of anthropology graduates'. The student struggles with word choice, specifically using 'employ' as a noun (e.g., 'the employ of government sector') instead of 'employees' or 'employment'. There are also minor errors in numerical formatting, such as '$1000.000+'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the persistent errors in word formation limit the score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement is often incorrect, such as 'the main destination... were to get' and 'the proportion of graduates whose destination were'. There are also issues with pluralisation and possessives, such as 'five year's work' instead of 'five years' work'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence structure would improve the clarity of the report.
