Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of both the chart and the table, but there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For example, you state that 'unemployed accounted for 12%', whereas the chart shows 12% for 'unknown'. Furthermore, your interpretation of the salary table is confusing; you mention that 'freelance consultants and the government sector received $25,000-$49,999 salaries accounted for 5%', which is not clearly supported by the data provided. While you attempt to summarize, the lack of precision in data handling and the misinterpretation of categories prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you double-check the labels and figures before writing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas within the paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the third paragraph where the connection between the salary brackets and the sectors is muddled. The use of cohesive devices is adequate but lacks the flexibility required for higher bands. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision. You use basic terms like 'get' and 'work' frequently. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'anthropologists salaries in work' and 'full time postgrad study'. The attempt to use more specific vocabulary is limited, and there are minor errors in word choice that occasionally affect the clarity of the report. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate a wider range of academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'sector', and 'remuneration'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'get get full time employment' (repetition), 'anthropologists salaries' (missing possessive apostrophe), and 'after five years work' (missing preposition). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of decimals and capitalization. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
