The chart below shows what Anthropology graduates from one university did after finishing their undergraduate degree course. The table shows the salaries of the anthropologists in work after five years.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparison where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie chart gives information about six different destinations of anthropology graduates after finishing university, while the table compares the salaries earned by three occupations after working for 5 years.
Overall, over half of the graduates entered full-time mployment after graduating, while a small proportion combined part-time work and postgraduate study. While most workers in freelance consult and government sector fields earned higher salaries, those whose worked in private companies had a relatively balanced precentange across all the salary ranges.
According to the pie chart, 52% of graduates entered full-time workplace, while only 5% of them were in part-time work and postgraduate study. Those whose destinations unknown accounted for exactly 8% and 8% of graduates pursued full-time postgraduate study. 15% of them did part-time work, whereas 12% of graduates stayed unemployed.
Both 5% of freelance consultants and government sector employees earned $25,000-49,999 and 15% of them earned $50,000-74,999. The largest proportion was observed in government sector employment at 50% by earning $100,000. The second ranking goes to freelance consultants, accounting 40% for $75,000-99,999 and $100,000+.
In terms of those who worked in private companies, the largest proportion was in $50,000-74,999 at 35% and the smallest figure was observed in $25,000-49,999 at 10%. 30% of them earned $100,000 and more, while those who have salaries at $75,000-99,999 stood at 25%

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of both the pie chart and the table. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with relevant data. However, there are some inaccuracies in your reporting. For instance, you stated that 50% of government sector employees earned $100,000, but the table indicates this figure is for the $100,000+ category. Additionally, your description of the freelance consultants' salary distribution is slightly confusing. To improve, ensure that you precisely match the data points to the categories provided in the table to avoid misinterpretation of the statistics.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'while', 'whereas', and 'in terms of' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by grouping the data more effectively. For example, the second paragraph mixes pie chart data with salary information, which disrupts the flow. Using more varied cohesive devices and ensuring each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the data would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'destinations', 'proportion', and 'observed'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'mployment' (employment) and 'precentange' (percentage). Additionally, phrases like 'the second ranking goes to' are slightly informal for an academic report. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and ensure careful proofreading to eliminate simple spelling errors that detract from the professional tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'those whose destinations unknown' (should be 'those whose destinations were unknown') and 'those whose worked in private companies' (should be 'those who worked'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on consistent verb tense usage and accurate relative clause construction will help improve your accuracy.
