The chart below shows what Anthropology graduates from one university did after finishing their undergraduate degree course. The table shows the salaries of the anthropologists in work after five years.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparison where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart depicts the streams the students of Anthropology from one university decided to choose after completing their undergraduate degree courses. The tabular representation represents the salaries of anthropologists after five years.

From the first glimpse of circular chart, it is abundantly clear that large percentage of the students preferred to work full-time accounted for 52%, whereas 15% students go for part-time work. Very few students decided to go for part-time work along with postgraduate study, 5% only. Moreover, percentage of students who choose full-time work and whose future stream was not known stand at 8%. 12% students stay unemployed.

Moving further, students working on different designations, earn different salaries. In the case of students working as a freelancer consultant and government sector, very less percentage of students are working under the lowest pay rate of $[redacted phone]9 which account for 5% only. 15% of students are working under the pay rate of $[redacted phone]9 in both the freelancer consultant and government sector. In freelancer consultant, same percentage of students are earning the salary of $[redacted phone]9 and $[redacted phone] which stand at 40%. Whereas in government sector, 30% comes under the category of $[redacted phone]9 and 50% under $[redacted phone]. In private companies, the percentage of students earning salary of $[redacted phone]9, $[redacted phone]9, $[redacted phone]9 and $[redacted phone] account for 10, 35, 25 and 30 respectively.

Overall, large majority of students choose full-time work after completing their undergraduate course. On the other hand, students working as a freelancer consultant are earning higher pay rate as compared to other designations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task, providing a clear summary of both the pie chart and the table. You successfully identified the main features, such as the dominance of full-time work and the salary variations across sectors. However, the analysis could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the categories rather than simply listing the data points. For instance, instead of listing percentages for each salary bracket in the table, you could highlight that the government sector has the highest proportion of top earners. The overview is present but could be more integrated into the body paragraphs to better highlight the key trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct data sets. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Moving further', and 'On the other hand' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother. For example, the transition between the pie chart description and the table could be more sophisticated to show the relationship between the two sets of data, rather than just moving to the next topic.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'tabular representation', 'abundantly clear', and 'different designations' are appropriate for an academic report. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'very less percentage' (should be 'a much smaller percentage') and 'future stream was not known' (could be 'unknown destination'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing when describing data trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'From the first glimpse of circular chart' (missing article 'the') and '15% students go for part-time work' (should be '15% of students'). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, such as 'percentage of students who choose... stand at 8%' (should be 'stands'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
