Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the data but fails to provide a clear overview or a complete summary. The description of the pie chart is fragmented, and the table data is incomplete, as the response cuts off mid-sentence. While the main categories are mentioned, the comparison between the different employment sectors and salary brackets is not fully developed. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the overall trends in the introduction and ensure all data points are fully reported and compared rather than just listing figures. The response is currently too descriptive and lacks the analytical synthesis required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To conclude that,' which is used incorrectly to introduce the body paragraphs. Referencing is sometimes confusing, for example, referring to the pie chart as a 'pie table' or describing visual elements like 'dots shape' and 'lines' rather than focusing on the data itself. The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the information provided. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'illustrates about' (should be 'illustrates'), 'hightest' (spelling error), and 'continue rise upto' (should be 'continue to rise up to'). The vocabulary used is basic and does not demonstrate the precision needed to describe statistical data effectively. To improve, focus on learning specific collocations for describing trends and data, such as 'a significant proportion,' 'fluctuated,' or 'remained stable.' Additionally, ensure you use accurate terminology for the visual aids provided.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The pie graph illustrates about anthropology graduates' and 'The other main thing is this table is types of employment.' There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and missing articles. Punctuation is inconsistent, and the incomplete final sentence demonstrates a lack of control over sentence structure. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofread carefully to eliminate minor errors in tense and word order.
