Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to address the task requirements adequately. Firstly, it is under the minimum word count of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Secondly, the report is incomplete; it stops abruptly while describing the table data, failing to provide a summary or a comprehensive overview of the main features. The inclusion of personal speculation regarding why graduates are jobless (e.g., 'market competition') is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report, which should remain objective and data-focused. The response lacks a clear overview of the trends presented in the visual aids.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is fragmented and lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt to use paragraphs, the second paragraph is a run-on list of statistics without clear progression or synthesis. Cohesive devices are minimal and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'In the given chart/table'. The abrupt ending indicates a lack of overall planning and organization, making it difficult for the reader to follow the information effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'gives us information' and 'we can see' are overused and lack the academic tone required for this task. There is little attempt to use precise terminology related to data description (e.g., 'proportion', 'accounted for', 'fluctuated'). The language is functional but lacks the range needed to describe statistical data with any degree of sophistication or precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. For example, 'the graduated students' should be 'the graduates', and 'anthropologists salaries' requires an apostrophe ('anthropologists' salaries'). There is a reliance on simple sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with the comma splice in the second paragraph. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of complex structures and the presence of frequent errors limit the score.
