Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the pie chart and the table. You successfully identified the main features, such as the dominance of full-time employment and the salary ranges. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you state that 52% of graduates chose full-time jobs, but the chart shows 52% as the total for full-time work, which is accurate, yet your description of the table data is confusing. Specifically, your interpretation of the salary table contains errors regarding the percentages and categories, making the comparison difficult to follow. To improve, ensure that the data points cited align precisely with the visual information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for each chart, and a summary. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. For example, the transition between the pie chart and the table is abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between the categories and the percentages could be smoother. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring they are used more naturally would help elevate the score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'sectors', 'undergraduates', and 'freelance consultants'. There are some instances of word-choice errors, such as 'dipicts' (spelling) and 'analised' (spelling), as well as 'under salary of' instead of 'earning a salary of'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of key academic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the percentage of Anthropologists who started doing full-time jobs were surpassed by 52%' (subject-verb agreement) and 'similar proportion of students where working' (incorrect 'where' instead of 'were'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor errors in capitalization and article usage. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage will improve your accuracy.
