Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both the pie chart and the table. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, which captures the general trends, such as the predominance of full-time jobs and the breakdown of salaries across sectors. Key data points are selected and reported accurately, including the 52% in full-time employment and the details regarding government, private, and freelance salary distributions. Comparisons are made where relevant, such as contrasting the private sector and government sector packages. The response covers the requirements well without any significant omissions, fulfilling the criteria for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response exhibits a clear logical organization and progression throughout. The essay is divided into an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for the chart and the table, demonstrating appropriate paragraphing. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'In addition', 'In detail', 'On the other hand', and 'Additionally'. However, there are minor cohesion issues and slight awkwardness in referencing, such as 'total the proportion' and minor repetition in transitional phrases. Despite these slight mechanical flaws in cohesion, the overall arrangement is coherent, securing a solid Band 6.5 to 7.0 range, comfortably landing at 6.5 due to occasional clunky transitions.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'proportion', 'destinations', 'unemployed', 'fraction', and 'salary packages'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary items like 'prospective', 'distribution', and 'freelance'. However, there are some noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'doing full time job' (instead of 'working full-time'), 'acquired part time jobs' (instead of 'secured'), and 'earning highest salary package' (missing articles like 'the'). While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect the limitations of Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and introductory prepositional phrases. There are several grammatical errors present, particularly concerning missing articles ('the table showed fraction', 'earning highest salary package'), awkward phrasing ('making up 5% of total the proportion'), and pluralization/agreement issues ('three mentioned types of employments' instead of 'employment'). Nonetheless, the majority of sentences are understandable, and the errors only rarely impede communication. This performance aligns well with the Band 6.0 descriptor for grammatical range and accuracy.
