Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The student attempts to address both the pie chart and the table, identifying general trends such as the most common destination (full-time work) and making comparisons regarding salaries in different sectors. However, the response falls severely short of the minimum word count requirement, clocking in at only 88 words against the required 150 words. Consequently, the information provided is very limited and lacks the depth and breadth of data reporting expected at higher bands. While the main features are touched upon briefly, the severe under-length prevents full development of the task, capping the score for this criterion at Band 4.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is structured into two paragraphs: an introduction and an overview. There is a basic logical progression from describing the chart to summarizing the table. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as "Overall, it is clear that" and "Although." However, paragraphing is limited due to the brevity of the text, and there is no concluding summary. Despite the very short length, the writing maintains a coherent overall arrangement and avoids being completely disjointed, justifying a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic summary, featuring terms like "illustrates," "undergraduate degree course," "unemployed," and "government sector." However, there are notable spelling errors ("thier," "undergrauate," "counsutants") and awkward phrasing such as "with what goals they have after" and "while working five years." The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with attempts at less common words leading to noticeable inaccuracies. This performance aligns closely with the Band 5 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including subordinate clauses introduced by "while" and "although." However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward structures, such as "Anthropology students from a university with what goals they have" and "the anthropologists, which they earn after working five years." Punctuation is generally acceptable, but frequent minor errors and awkward syntax restrict the clarity and accuracy of the sentences, placing the response securely in Band 5.0.
