Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by summarizing the main features of both the pie chart and the table. An effective overview is provided, capturing the dominant destination of graduates and the high-earning sectors. Key data points are accurately reported and compared, such as the 52% in full-time work and the salary distributions across freelance, government, and private sectors. Although there is a minor omission in the first sentence regarding the table (missing the detail that it shows salaries after five years), the overall response is well-developed, accurate, and completely fulfills the requirements of Task 1.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The text demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information is divided into logical paragraphs, with an introduction containing an overview, followed by distinct body paragraphs for the chart and the table. Cohesive devices are used effectively to guide the reader through the data, such as 'Overall', 'Looking first at', 'Meanwhile', and 'By comparison'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, contributing to an overall coherent piece of writing, though paragraphing and referencing mechanics could be slightly more polished to reach higher bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task, incorporating terms like 'destinations', 'proportion', 'distributed pattern', and 'highest salary bracket'. There are, however, some noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'Among freelance consultants, earned 75,000-99,999 dollars' (missing verb/noun subject) and 'Private company had' (singular instead of plural). Spelling is generally fine, but punctuation and minor word-choice errors occasionally surface. Overall, the lexical range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms with varying success. Complex structures are present, such as 'while the table compares...' and 'whereas private company employees had...'. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips, including missing subjects ('earned 75,000-99,999 dollars'), missing spaces in numbers ('75000'), and run-on phrasing ('pattern :30%earne 50,000'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the score from reaching a higher band due to a lack of consistent control.
