The pie chart displays the destination of anthropology graduates from one university after finishing their undergraduate degree course, while the table demonstrates the salaries of the anthropologists in work after five years.

Overall, the highest proportion by far of anthropology graduates chose full time work, followed by part-time work and unemployment which had similar percentages. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The candidate covers all parts of the task well, providing an overview of the main features and making relevant comparisons between the chart and the table. The response accurately notes that full-time work was the most popular destination at 52%, while the combination of part-time work and postgraduate study was the least common at 5%. For the salary table, the student correctly highlights that the government sector had the highest percentage of top earners ($100,000+) at 50%, and makes good comparisons regarding salary distributions. The overview effectively summarises the primary trends. Minor numerical amalgamations occur in the final paragraph where the student aggregates salary ranges, but this does not detract from a solid task completion that meets all Band 7 requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organised with a clear progression from an introduction to an overall summary, followed by body paragraphs detailing the chart and table data respectively. Cohesive devices are used appropriately to link ideas, such as 'while', 'Overall', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand'. Paragraphing is logical, with each paragraph serving a distinct function in presenting the data. However, minor referencing and transitional mechanical links occasionally feel a bit standard rather than fully flexible, placing the response comfortably within Band 7.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'proportion', 'destination', 'consultants', and 'distribution'. Less common lexical items are attempted with some awareness of style and collocation, such as 'accounted for' and 'pursued a full-time career'. There are a few minor spelling and lexical inaccuracies, notably 'varried' instead of 'varied' and currency symbol placement ('75000$'), but these do not impede communication. The vocabulary is adequate to convey the data clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating subordinate clauses and participial phrases effectively (e.g., 'while the table demonstrates the salaries...', 'reaching 52%'). There is a good proportion of error-free sentences, demonstrating control over punctuation and basic grammar. Minor errors do occur, such as spelling slips ('resepctively') and occasional awkward phrasing, but these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication, supporting a solid Band 7 score.
