Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address both parts of the prompt by describing the graduate destinations and the salary breakdown. However, there are some inaccuracies and omissions in data reporting. For instance, the writer states that 'only 5% of the graduates salary in consultant and government sector were between $25,000 to $49,999', whereas the chart shows 5% for consultants and government, but 10% for private companies. Furthermore, the overview lacks a clear summary of the main overall trends. While the key features are partially covered, the development of ideas is limited and contains minor misreadings of the data. This performance aligns with Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into four paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview/body paragraph for destinations, and body paragraphs for salaries. However, the logical progression is hampered by awkward phrasing and abrupt transitions, such as 'Salaries of the graduates are in three types of employment.' Cohesive devices are used minimally and sometimes inappropriately, such as 'following the 40% freelance consultans under this bracket.' Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within sentences is frequently faulty, resulting in a somewhat disjointed reading experience that fits Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and repetitive, with several spelling and word choice errors, such as 'anthropolgy' instead of 'anthropology', 'full time work' lacking hyphens when used as a noun phrase, and 'consultans' instead of 'consultants'. The writer relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with precise collocation and phrasing, as seen in 'getting the salaries of more than $100,000' and 'in consultant and government sector'. Although the vocabulary is adequate to convey the basic subject matter, noticeable errors cause some difficulty and place the response firmly at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures frequently lead to errors, such as 'Only 8% of the students were not known that what exactly they are doing.' There are persistent grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, including missing articles (e.g., 'After the graduation'), incorrect prepositions (e.g., 'after the 5 years work'), and punctuation errors. While these errors do not completely obscure the meaning, their frequency and the limited range of accurate structures prevent the response from achieving a higher band score, making Band 5.0 appropriate.
