Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to present data from both the chart and the table, the information is communicated through a series of mechanical data listings rather than a cohesive summary. Several figures are inaccurate or awkwardly phrased, and key comparisons are largely missing. For instance, the overview of the chart's data relies heavily on repetitive phrasing like 'which is lower then' instead of synthesizing the main trends. The reporting of the salary table descends into an overly dense and confusing string of numbers and percentages without clear analytical grouping. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to identify and summarize the overarching trends rather than attempting to list every single data point, and ensure that comparisons are made accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some basic organization, separating the introduction, the chart description, and the salary table into distinct paragraphs. However, there is no clear overall progression or logical development of ideas. Cohesive devices are either missing or repetitive, with the text relying heavily on excessive use of 'and' to link clauses and sentences together. This results in run-on structures that hinder readability. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of each paragraph lacks logical transitions. To improve coherence, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive markers to connect ideas smoothly and structure sentences so that they do not run on indefinitely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The vocabulary is overly basic and heavily dependent on direct lifting from the prompt, such as 'destination of anthropology graduates from one university' and 'salaries of the anthropologists'. There are noticeable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'Antrhropology' and 'not know' instead of 'unknown'. Furthermore, prepositions and collocational patterns are misused, such as 'give to freelance consultant'. While the language communicates the general topic, these frequent lexical inaccuracies and the lack of less common vocabulary restrict the score. To progress, the writer should incorporate a broader range of synonyms and topic-specific vocabulary with correct word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting almost entirely of simple statements joined incorrectly by coordinating conjunctions. Complex sentences are rarely attempted, and when structures become more complicated, they are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries, such as missing verbs in introductory clauses ('The illustrate chart shows that... and did after finishing') and poor subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is also problematic, as seen in the lack of full stops or commas to break up long strings of data. To achieve a higher band, the writer must demonstrate control over a mix of simple and complex sentence forms while reducing basic grammatical errors.
