Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, containing only 77 words total, of which 13 were copied directly from the prompt. Because the essay cuts off mid-sentence during the discussion of the table data, it addresses the task only minimally and fails to present any comparison or conclusion regarding the second part of the visual data. To reach a higher band, the writer must complete the task fully by reporting the main features of both charts and developing all parts of the prompt with sufficient detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organization with an introductory sentence and an overall summary attempt, but the incomplete nature of the response severely limits overall progression. Cohesive devices are minimal and mechanical, such as 'Overall' and 'In addition'. Paragraphing is disrupted because the essay is cut short and lacks a body section for the table. To improve cohesion, the writer needs to structure ideas into clear paragraphs that logically link the chart and table data together.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, featuring appropriate terms like 'destination', 'graduates', 'unemployed', and 'salaries'. However, the range is limited and repetition occurs, alongside awkward phrasing such as 'followed full-time work to around 52%' and 'second most following section'. Spelling and word choice are generally understandable, but vocabulary control remains basic. Incorporating less common lexical items and precise collocation would elevate the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional attempts at complex forms that contain errors, such as 'was about 8%.The figure for remaining two categories... standing at approximately 12%'. There are missing articles ('for remaining two categories') and punctuation issues between sentences. To improve, the writer needs to increase sentence variety, ensure correct subject-verb agreement, and eliminate frequent structural slips that cause awkwardness.
