Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing an overview of both the pie chart and the table. Key features are selected and reported, such as the dominant 52 percent figure for full-time work and the salary distribution across sectors. However, there is a tendency to slightly over-generalise or misread minor data points, such as stating that the government sector has 10 percent more graduate population getting paid over 100,000 dollars compared to freelancing, when the chart actually shows them both at 40 and 50 percent respectively. Ideas are generally well extended and supported with relevant figures, fulfilling the requirements for this level while stopping short of fully rigorous detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
There is a clear logical organisation and progression throughout the response. The text is divided into appropriate paragraphs, starting with an introductory overview, moving to general trends, and then detailing the specific data for both the chart and the table. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Overall', 'In terms of destination', and 'However', though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the information logically, ensuring the reader can easily follow the progression of ideas from the visual data.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is deployed for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'consultants', 'unemployed', and 'proportion'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect this band level, including typos like 'Anthhology' instead of Anthropology, 'graudates' instead of graduates, and awkward phrasing such as 'a little number of people' instead of 'a small number'. While these vocabulary and spelling slips do not impede overall communication, they prevent the response from achieving a higher rating.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and introductory prepositional phrases effectively. There are some grammatical errors and awkward prepositions present, such as 'accounted for 52%' instead of 'accounting for 52%', 'the 40% of are offered', and 'dollar' instead of dollars. Punctuation and verb agreements are generally handled well enough that meaning is rarely obscured. These persistent minor errors place the grammatical control securely within this band.
