Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response only partially addresses the task requirements. First, it fails to meet the minimum length requirement, being ten words short of the 150-word threshold. While it attempts to cover both the chart and the table, the information is presented with notable inaccuracies and a lack of proper data selection. For instance, the statement that '5% of freelance consultants and government sector employees earn up to $49,999' misreads the chart, as the 5% figure actually applies only to the $25,000–$49,999 bracket for freelancers and government workers, whereas another 15% fall into the next bracket. The overview mentions general trends but misses key comparisons. To improve, you must ensure your word count exceeds the minimum, check data points carefully against the visual prompts, and select the most striking features to report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates some organization, but lacks a clear overall progression. The paragraphing is somewhat fragmented, with single sentences acting as paragraphs or body sections bunched together rather than logically separated by chart category. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes inaccurate, such as using 'On the other side' inappropriately to introduce a new paragraph of data. Pronoun referencing and signposting are weak, causing the information to feel disjointed. To reach a higher band, you need to group related data into well-developed paragraphs, use cohesive devices more flexibly to guide the reader smoothly through the response, and ensure a logical flow from the overview through to the specific data points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical inadequacies, awkward word choices, and collocation slips, such as 'location occupies by full time employees' instead of 'proportion of full-time employees', and 'private companies worker' instead of 'workers in private companies'. Spelling and word formation errors also appear, such as 'post-graduated' instead of 'postgraduate'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey basic information about the charts, it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning accurate academic collocations, precise reporting verbs and nouns, and proper word forms for describing statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional, often faulty, attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'the earning of graduated students', 'candidates makes up'), missing articles (e.g., 'in government sector'), and incorrect prepositional phrases. These errors can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, you should practice constructing more complex sentences with accurate subordination, ensure strict agreement between subjects and verbs, and pay closer attention to articles and prepositions when reporting numerical and statistical trends.
