Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping at only 114 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the writer attempts to provide an overview and report some features from the charts, the information remains incomplete and underdeveloped. Key data from the table regarding salaries across different types of employment is entirely omitted, and the summary cuts off mid-sentence at the end of the third paragraph. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure the response is sufficiently long to cover all parts of the prompt, including both the destinations chart and the salary table, with well-developed supporting data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response shows some basic organization with an introductory paragraph, an overview, and the start of a detail paragraph, but there is no clear overall progression due to the incomplete nature of the writing. Cohesive devices are limited and mechanical, with transitions like 'Overall' and 'In terms of' used in a somewhat formulaic manner. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is abruptly cut off. For improvement, the writer needs to ensure that ideas are fully developed and logically sequenced from introduction to a proper conclusion, using a wider and more natural range of cohesive markers to guide the reader smoothly through the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, featuring attempts at less common items such as 'proportion', 'anthropologists', and 'career prospects'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'anthropology department of a university' (missing articles) and 'anthropology industry' (collocational error). There is also a spelling slip ('prefered' instead of preferred) and a word form error ('amoong'). To improve, the writer should focus on precise word choices and correct collocations relevant to academic data reporting, while ensuring proper spelling and accurate word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, attempting a mix of simple and complex forms with varying success. There are several grammatical errors that disrupt the flow, such as missing articles ('from anthropology department'), incorrect passive constructions ('found to be the highest' instead of were found to be), and preposition misuse. Punctuation is also incomplete, as the final sentence lacks a concluding full stop. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to increase grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb forms, voice, and articles, and produce a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences.
