Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to address both parts of the visual data by discussing the pie chart and the table, but the treatment remains limited and mechanical. While the main features are touched upon—such as noting that full-time work holds the major share in the pie chart—the details are often described vaguely rather than clearly synthesized. For instance, stating that the students pursuing full-time postgrad study are in the 'same porportion with the not known category' overlooks exact figures (8% for both), but more importantly, key data points lack clear comparative weight. The discussion of the table relies heavily on repetitive phrasing like 'consist of' and 'hike can be seen' rather than accurately summarizing the salary distributions across employment types. To improve, the student needs to select and report the most salient features with greater precision and avoid getting bogged down in minor comparative details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text presents a basic overarching structure with separate paragraphs for the chart and the table, demonstrating some logical organization. However, progression is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of smooth cohesive flow. Transitional phrases are somewhat mechanical or missing entirely, making the movement from one sentence to the next feel abrupt. Pronoun referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'whereas they in 5% hike', which disrupts the clarity of the comparisons. Paragraphing is attempted by separating the two visual components, but internal cohesion requires more varied linking devices and better referencing to achieve a higher level of fluency and logical progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and heavily repetitive, with frequent misspellings and lexical errors that reflect a basic range. Words like 'Antrhropology' are misspelled multiple times, and the student relies on awkward collocations and imprecise terms, such as 'conquered by', 'minor has conquered', and describing salary increases as a 'hike'. Phrases like 'same percent' and 'higher order' demonstrate a restricted control of appropriate academic vocabulary. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic topic of the charts, noticeable word-choice errors and spelling mistakes constrain precision and prevent the response from achieving a more natural, varied academic tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement and word forms, such as 'The pie-chart demonstrate', 'The students who are persuing... is in same porportion', and 'students who are doing part-time work are slightly more higher than students'. Article usage and prepositional patterns also show frequent inaccuracies, as seen in 'in freelance and government sector' and 'Salary range from $25,000-49,999 consist of equal number of percentage'. These frequent grammatical errors require reader effort and indicate a need for firmer control over basic and complex sentence patterns alike.
