Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer attempts to mention some figures from both the chart and the table, the information is presented in a very fragmented and incomplete manner. Key data points are missed or misreported, such as stating that full-time work is 51% instead of 52%, and the description of the table's salary brackets is extremely disjointed and trails off without completing the comparisons for all employment types. There is a lack of a clear overall trend or overview of the visual data. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to select and report the main features accurately, provide a clear overview comparing the key data points, and develop the response more fully across all parts of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently in this response. The text lacks clear paragraphing, presenting a jumble of sentences that run together without logical structure or progression. Cohesive devices are largely absent, and where transitions are attempted, such as 'first of all' or 'then', they are mechanically used without establishing clear relationships between sentences. Additionally, referencing is unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information between the pie chart data and the table data. To improve, the writer should organize the essay into logical paragraphs with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs, using appropriate cohesive devices to connect ideas smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range that is only minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on copying words directly from the prompt, such as 'Anthropology graduates', 'one university', and 'freelance consultants'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'presend', 'not know', 'freelence', and 'grradutes', which occasionally cause strain for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range by using less common vocabulary, paraphrasing the prompt effectively, and ensuring greater accuracy in word formation and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences that are frequently marred by basic errors. There are frequent issues with verb forms and tenses, such as 'after complete' instead of 'after completing', and missing auxiliary verbs or copula verbs (e.g., 'salaries of the anthropology in work'). Punctuation and capitalization are largely neglected, with sentences running together or starting without capital letters. Complex sentence structures are rarely attempted and tend to be faulty. To improve, the writer needs to increase sentence variety, improve control over basic grammatical structures, and use punctuation correctly to separate independent clauses and sentences.
