Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response only partially addresses the task requirements. While the student attempts to report on both the pie chart and the table, the selection of data is incomplete and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the interpretation of the table's salary data is confused; the student incorrectly claims that 50% of government jobs and 40% of freelance jobs are in the highest salary bracket, misreading the distribution across multiple columns. Furthermore, key comparisons between the categories are largely missed or poorly articulated. The overview provided in the opening paragraph is very basic, stating simply what the charts show without highlighting the overarching trends, such as the dominance of full-time employment for the graduates.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organization present, with the response divided into paragraphs separating the introduction, the pie chart details, and the table information. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the logical links between sentences are weak. Cohesive devices are either repetitive or inaccurate, relying heavily on basic sequencing or additive transitions like 'and also' and 'As in the table we can see that'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within the paragraphs is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic and repetitive phrasing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts to use some topic-specific terms such as 'freelance consultant', 'government sector', and 'postgraduate study', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and word formation, such as 'salaries ranges', 'jobs sections', and 'not know'. Spelling and morphological inaccuracies appear throughout the text, and the repetitive use of basic words like 'jobs', 'percent', and 'doing' restricts the range, occasionally causing difficulty for the reader in following the precise meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex ones. Frequent grammatical errors are present, including missing auxiliary verbs ('what student done', 'student start', 'Some of them doing'), incorrect subject-verb agreement ('52% student are employed'), and missing articles ('in private sector jobs'). Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on structures and incorrect capitalization ('4o%'). These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty and strain for the reader.
