Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both the bar chart and the table, but some aspects are more fully developed than others. The overview successfully captures the general trends, noting that full-time work is the most common destination and highlighting the contrast in salaries, such as the government sector having the highest proportion of top earners. However, some of the supporting details are slightly unclear or contain minor inaccuracies in data reporting, such as the description of the lowest salaries where the phrasing is a bit convoluted. Ideas are relevant and the selection of data points is adequate to provide a broad summary, placing the response firmly at this level where main features are covered but some parts lack complete clarity and extension.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introductory overview to the body paragraphs detailing the chart and the table separately. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the destination data from the salary statistics. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases between sentences are sometimes simplistic, and referencing is not always entirely clear, such as in the second paragraph where the sentence structure makes the comparison of salary sources slightly confusing. Cohesive devices are present but lack the flexibility and smooth flow required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'destination', 'proportion', and 'constitute'. However, there are several lexical errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that prevent a higher score. For example, 'emloyments' is misspelled, 'full-timw' contains a typo, 'founded' is misused instead of 'found', and 'salay' is misspelled. Furthermore, phrases like 'the largest pecentage worker' demonstrate awkward collocation and lack of precision. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they reflect the limitations characteristic of this lexical band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as relative clauses and comparative constructions ('while the accompanying table illustrates', 'as there are just over a half'). There is a presence of some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples of grammatical slips include article omissions or misuse ('Graduates from university', 'the lowest salay was between %25,000-49,999, just 5% from employees'), preposition errors, and subject-verb agreement issues ('Unemployed make up', where a noun is used where a plural noun or subject is intended). The range of structures is somewhat limited and control over complex sentences is inconsistent.
