Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both the pie chart and the table, establishing a clear overview. However, some aspects are handled more fully than others, and certain details are under-developed or inaccurately reported. For instance, the writer correctly highlights that 52% of graduates entered full-time work, but misreports the salary data for the government sector by claiming that 50% earned more than $100,000 when the chart indicates this was the highest bracket. Key comparisons between categories, such as the salary distribution across employment types, are only partially explored, resulting in a somewhat limited overview of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response achieves a coherent overall arrangement and shows a clear attempt to structure the information logically into an introduction, overview, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two different visual prompts. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, with transitional phrases like 'First of all,' and 'On the other hand,' feeling slightly repetitive or unnatural for an academic report. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as pronoun use and linking words between sentences, which prevents the essay from reaching a fully smooth logical progression throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less-common terms related to data reporting and employment fields such as 'freelance consultants', 'government sector', and 'postgraduate studies'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from precision, such as 'choosen', 'anthropy', 'profeesionals', and 'persue'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they reflect a limited control over word forms and spelling that keeps the lexical score constrained.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting comparative structures and relative clauses. There are, however, frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Issues appear in subject-verb agreement and verb forms, such as 'majority of the students prefered', 'very few of them choses', and 'remain chooses to work'. Furthermore, article usage and prepositions within grammatical patterns are occasionally missing or incorrect, such as 'in government sector' and 'most amount of salaries'. These errors require some effort from the reader to interpret, though they rarely obscure the overall meaning completely.
