Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by summarizing the main features of both the pie chart and the table and making relevant comparisons. An appropriate overview is provided in the second paragraph, capturing the most striking trends such as full-time work being the most common destination and private-sector consultants having the highest proportion earning the top salary bracket. However, certain parts are more fully developed than others; for instance, the details regarding government workers and private companies in the final paragraphs contain minor inaccuracies or slightly confusing comparisons, such as misstating which group was more likely to earn specific amounts. The response sits comfortably within the expectations of this band by providing relevant data points, though extending the analysis with more precise synthesis would elevate it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The report displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction and overview to the body paragraphs detailing the pie chart and salary table respectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct datasets. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as "Meanwhile", "According to pie chart", and "In comparison". However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always completely clear, such as in the final paragraph where pronouns and comparisons between government workers and private consultants become slightly tangled. To reach the next level, the connections between sentences and clauses could be managed more flexibly and smoothly without relying on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the statistical information with terms such as "destination", "proportion", "consultants", and "distribution". The writer attempts less common vocabulary items, but this is accompanied by some spelling errors like "anthopology", "thier", "employement", "catagory", "countiued", "differances", "emloyement", "freelence", and "porportion". Word choice and word form errors are also present, such as "highest proportion of employees earning" versus "highest proportion of employees". These errors do not seriously impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended meaning, but they prevent the score from rising higher due to the frequency of slips in spelling and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and comparative structures effectively throughout the response. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ("The pie chart", "According to the pie chart"), incorrect prepositions or phrasing ("combined part-time work employement with"), and awkward comma placements ("After five years , private -sector consultants"). Nevertheless, these grammatical slips rarely impede communication, and the basic meaning remains clear. To achieve a higher band, the writer would need to demonstrate greater control over complex sentence structures and punctuation, ensuring a higher proportion of completely error-free sentences.
