Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response addresses the task only minimally, as the information presented is heavily fragmented and lacks a clear, coherent overview of the visual data. The writer attempts to report data from both the chart and the table, such as mentioning that '52% are Full time workers' and discussing portions of the freelance consultants' salaries, but the selection of features is incomplete and disjointed. Furthermore, the description cuts off abruptly while discussing the government sector, omitting large parts of the data. To move up, the response would need to select and report the main trends across all parts of the visual data clearly, providing a proper summary rather than listing isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation in the response, but it lacks clear overall progression. The text is divided into three dense paragraphs corresponding to different parts of the prompt, but the flow of ideas is frequently disrupted by run-on sentences and a lack of proper punctuation. Cohesive devices are very basic and repetitive, relying heavily on connectors like 'after that', 'So', and 'If we talk about'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is muddled, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical sequence of information. Improving this area requires using clearer referencing, appropriate linking words, and breaking down information into logically grouped sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Vocabulary usage is basic, repetitive, and strained by frequent errors in spelling, word form, and word choice. The student misspells words repeatedly, such as 'graguates', 'thier', 'postguide', 'hgave', and 'onther', alongside vocabulary slips like 'Freekance'. The range of vocabulary is restricted to repeating simple terms from the prompt and basic numbers and percentages. While the topic can be vaguely understood, the numerous lexical errors strain the reader and impede smooth communication. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, accurately spell key terms related to data reporting and academic disciplines, and use more precise terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and heavily flawed complex structures. There are frequent errors in basic sentence construction, punctuation, and agreements, such as 'In the Anthropology graguates thier is 52% are Full time workers' and 'the Salaries range are quit same'. The text suffers from run-on sentences linked incorrectly with commas or 'So' rather than proper conjunctions or full stops. Verb forms and prepositions are also handled inaccurately throughout the text. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate control over basic sentence boundaries, ensure subject-verb agreement, and reduce the frequency of structural errors that hinder comprehension.
