Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to summarise the charts by mentioning the main destination of graduates and salary ranges, some key features and comparisons are under-developed or inaccurately reported. For instance, the overview states that the majority of students work full time and earn more money in the government sector, but the details provided in the body paragraphs lack precision. The student mentions that 52% work full time after finishing 'his' degree and that '12% students have a unemployed', containing mechanical data reporting. Furthermore, some data points are misinterpreted or awkwardly phrased, such as stating that '5% work as a postgrad study and do part time job' and 'Their have not idea about work of 8% Anthropology'. While key elements of the visual data are touched upon, the lack of thorough comparison and the presence of limited, under-developed ideas place this criterion at the indicated level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text displays some organisation with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding overview structure, but it lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, with the student separating the pie chart data from the table data. However, cohesive devices are sometimes faulty, mechanical, or repetitive. For instance, the transition 'Meanwhile, the table give information' is used twice in close succession to introduce new sections. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'their work those graduates student' and 'Their have not idea', which disrupt the logical flow between sentences. While the overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow the general topic, the mechanical and sometimes inaccurate use of cohesive ties keeps the response at this level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'Freelance consultants' and 'government sector', but struggles with word choice, word form, and collocation. There are noticeable errors that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'have a unemployed' instead of 'are unemployed', 'postgrad study' used as a noun describing the person rather than their activity, and 'their have not idea' instead of 'there is no information'. Repetition of basic terms like 'give information about' and 'work' further restricts the lexical variety. While basic communication of the data is achieved, the frequent lexical inaccuracies and limited control over word forms prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar, subject-verb agreement, and articles that can cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'those graduates student who complete', 'majority of student work full time', 'finishing his degree' (referring to plural graduates), and '5% people earn between 25000 to 49999 dollar' where currency placement and pluralisation are incorrect. Additionally, tense consistency is occasionally disrupted, and punctuation is basic. These frequent structural and grammatical errors indicate a restricted command of grammar and sentence construction.
