Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response only partially addresses the task requirements. While it attempts to summarize information from both the pie chart and the table, the second half of the text becomes repetitive and fragmented, and the student fails to complete the response, trailing off mid-sentence with parentheses. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the 150-word minimum by 11 words. Key features are partially covered, such as mentioning the highest percentage for full-time work and the government sector salaries, but comparisons are underdeveloped, and information is presented in a somewhat disjointed manner.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some organization attempted through initial overview statements, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with abrupt shifts and an incomplete final paragraph that trails off into a fragment. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes repetitive or inaccurate, such as 'one the other hand', which affects the logical flow of ideas. Reference words and logical connectors are not always used effectively to link the data between the pie chart and the table, making the overall arrangement difficult to follow cohesively.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for basic communication. The writer attempts some topic-specific terms such as 'undergraduate degree course', 'full-time work', and 'government sector', but also makes noticeable word choice and capitalization errors, such as 'post graduation', 'part time', and 'lowest percentage pursue'. There are also awkward expressions like 'how much income they are making'. While meaning can generally be extracted, these lexical limitations and occasional inaccuracies restrict the score to a lower band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple constructions. Attempts at more complex sentences lead to errors, such as 'more than 50 percent of the graduates chose to work full-time while the lowest percentage pursue part time work with postgrad studies', which exhibits tense inconsistency ('chose' versus 'pursue'). There are frequent punctuation and capitalization errors, such as missing capitals at the start of sentences ('Overall, In...' and 'one the other hand'), and the response ends with an unfinished grammatical structure. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader.
