Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially because it relies heavily on a rigid, mechanical listing of percentages rather than selecting and reporting the main features effectively. The writer attempts to cover both the chart and the table, noting categories such as 52 percent for full-time work and outlining salary brackets across three sectors (Freelance consultants, Government sector, Private companies). However, the information is presented in a very mechanical and repetitive manner without a clear, overarching overview or well-selected comparisons. Ideas are limited and under-developed, resulting in a partial treatment of the visual data. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to provide a clear introductory overview highlighting main trends and group data logically with meaningful comparisons rather than listing every single numerical value.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic organisation in the text, but it lacks clear overall progression and paragraphing. The entire response is written as a single, massive block of text, making it difficult to follow the shift from graduate destinations to salary data. Cohesive devices are inadequate and repetitive, heavily relying on informal conversational connectors and repetitive phrases like 'and there are' and 'and the last'. Paragraphing is absent, which disrupts the logical flow of ideas. To achieve a higher band, the writer must divide the essay into distinct, logical paragraphs (such as an introduction, an overview paragraph, a body paragraph for destinations, and a body paragraph for salaries) and use a wider variety of appropriate cohesive devices to link ideas smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'anthropology graduates', 'undergraduate degree course', 'full-time workers', 'postgraduate studies', and 'salary', but the range is narrow and repetitive. There are noticeable errors in word choice and form, such as writing 'presency', 'studens', 'postgraduage', 'salaries' used incorrectly as a verb ('earning a salaries'), and 'Private companies sectors'. These errors sometimes cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer should build a broader range of vocabulary, avoid basic repetition, and ensure accurate word forms and collocations when discussing statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of extremely long, run-on sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions like 'and' and conversational interjections like 'As i can see'. Attempts at complex structures are faulty, and there are frequent grammatical errors including missing or incorrect articles, punctuation issues (such as starting sentences with lowercase letters in places), and poor subject-verb agreement. Examples include 'studens have the percentage of their presency', 'who didnt choose to work they are use to completing', and 'who are joined in the companies and earning a salaries'. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to break long run-on sentences into shorter, grammatically sound sentences and improve control over basic verb tenses, prepositions, and sentence boundaries.
