Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart and table and attempt an overview, noting that full-time work is the largest destination. However, the overview misreads the salary data: private-company employees do not have the highest salaries overall; the largest $100,000+ share is in government employment (50%), while freelance consultants and government workers both have 5% in the lowest band. You also call freelance consultants the lowest-paid group without explaining the distribution. Most destination figures and salary comparisons are omitted, so the task is addressed only minimally. The response is 82 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 11 words copied from the prompt are excluded from that count. Add a clear overview and report several accurate figures from both visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the first sentence introduces both visuals, and the next begins with “In an overview.” This gives the reader a simple starting structure. However, the response has only two sentences and does not progress from an overview to supporting details, so the information is not developed in a clear sequence. The repeated phrase “anthropology graduates” and repeated references to “highest” and “lowest” do not create useful links between ideas. The opening sentence also joins the chart and table with a comma, making the relationship between the clauses unclear. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key details, and connect comparisons explicitly, for example, “By contrast” or “whereas.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “full-time work,” “destination,” “salaries,” and “private companies,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the writing difficult to read, such as “authropology,” “arthropologist,” “anthropolgy,” and “antehropology.” The phrase “highest destination” is not a natural way to describe the largest category, and “income” is less precise than “salary bands” for the table. Repetition of “graduates” and “highest/lowest” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate spelling and use precise chart language such as “largest proportion,” “salary range,” and “earned.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to combine information in longer sentences, but grammatical control is weak and the sentence patterns are very limited. In “The pie chart illustrate,” the singular subject requires “illustrates”; “after five year” needs a plural form, and “the highest salaries … private companies” lacks a grammatical link such as “were reported in.” The overview sentence beginning “However” is also incomplete or unclear because it refers to the “lowest value” without identifying the category. Commas are used where full stops are needed, including after the opening sentence, and spacing around punctuation is inconsistent. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add comparisons using structures such as “while” and “whereas.”
