Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the largest destination category accurately: full-time work at 52%, and you note that part-time work combined with postgraduate study is the smallest at 5%. You also make relevant salary comparisons, including government employment at 50% in the highest band and freelance consultants at 40%. However, the overview is incomplete and partly unclear: it does not summarise the overall salary pattern, and the phrase “The three sorts of employment receiving salaries more than $100,000” does not clearly state the comparison. Several important figures are omitted, such as the private-company distribution across all salary bands and the 40% of freelance consultants earning $75,000–99,999. Develop a clearer overview and select a few more comparisons across the table.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the pie chart and table. Some information is grouped by visual, which helps the reader follow the topic. However, progression is limited because the pie-chart details repeat points already made in the overview: full-time work and the 5% category are mentioned twice. Linking is also sometimes awkward or inaccurate, as in “Whereas” beginning a sentence fragment and “Moreover” joining ideas without clear punctuation. The final salary details are presented as separate statements rather than being compared in a developed sequence. Organise the body around the main contrasts, avoid repeating figures, and use linking expressions only where they clarify the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary such as “accounted for,” “employment,” “salary,” and “percentage,” and the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. There is some attempt at more formal reporting language, but the range is limited and several word-choice or collocation problems reduce precision. For example, “the three sorts of employment receiving salaries more than $100,000” is difficult to interpret, and “provide salaries” is repeated where “earn” or “fall into the salary band” would be more natural. “Regrading” is a spelling error, while “it's” is incorrectly used for the possessive form. Aim for precise terms such as “highest salary bracket” and vary reporting verbs while keeping the wording natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including comparisons with “while,” “which,” and “whereas.” Some basic sentence meanings are clear, such as “Full-time work accounted for 52%.” However, control is inconsistent, particularly in longer constructions. In “Government sector provide … to it's 50%, employees,” the subject–verb agreement, sentence structure, punctuation, and possessive form are faulty; “unemployed are still manage to make up 12%” also has an incorrect verb pattern. The sentence beginning “Whereas” is incomplete, and capitalisation after sentence breaks is inconsistent. Use complete clauses, check singular/plural agreement, and simplify sentences when several comparisons make the grammar difficult to control.
