Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers both visuals and gives a clear overview: full-time work is correctly identified as the largest destination, and government employment as having the highest share in the top salary band. Most figures are reported accurately, including 52%, 15%, 12%, and the 50% government figure. However, some salary details are incomplete or unclear: the freelance salary range is given only as “between $75000” without its upper limit, and the private-company range “$50,000 and $4,999” is evidently misreported. The overview’s claim about private-company employees earning $25,000–$74,999 is broadly supported, but could be more precise. This is a relevant, reasonably complete summary, though some features need clearer and more accurate reporting.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a sensible overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on graduate destinations, and two paragraphs comparing salary groups. This makes the main information easy to locate, and linking expressions such as “while,” “a further,” and “by comparison” help show relationships. The progression is generally clear, but cohesion is not always smooth. In the destinations paragraph, “the remaining 5%” is attached to the preceding sentence without clear punctuation, making the sequence harder to follow. The salary discussion also shifts between groups without consistently setting up the comparisons, and some sentence openings lack capitalisation. More controlled punctuation and clearer links between salary bands would make the organisation more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses relevant task vocabulary, including “destinations,” “graduates,” “postgraduate study,” “freelance consultants,” and “proportion.” It also attempts useful comparison language, such as “the largest category” and “the highest figure.” However, spelling errors are frequent and sometimes make the text difficult to read, for example “thier,” “goverment,” “recieved,” and “employes.” There are also inaccurate or incomplete word choices, including “Part time jobs accountant for 15%” and “earned between $75000,” which do not express the intended information clearly. The range is adequate for describing the visuals, but careful proofreading and more precise salary-band phrasing are needed for reliable communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
There is some variety in sentence structure, including complex comparisons such as “while the table compares…” and “while 30% earned $100,000 or above.” Most intended relationships can be understood, but grammatical control is uneven. For example, “the remaining 5% combined part time work with postgraduate study” has an unclear subject and needs restructuring, while “in the governments sector 50% earned…” has an incorrect possessive form. Several sentences also run together, as in the destinations paragraph, where a full stop or semicolon is needed before “the remaining 5%.” The response shows attempts at complex forms, but more accurate sentence boundaries, agreement, and grammatical phrasing would improve clarity.
