Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies one accurate main feature: “most of them did full time work,” matching the 52% figure. It also attempts to compare salaries, but the claim that government workers “earn most money” is only partly supported: this sector has the largest share in the $100,000+ bracket (50%), while freelance consultants also have a substantial 40% there. Calling post-graduate study the least common destination is inaccurate, since part-time work plus postgraduate study is 5%, below full-time postgraduate study at 8%. The chart and table are both addressed only minimally, with no supporting figures or meaningful coverage of the other categories. The response is also 98 words below the required minimum, leaving the key information undeveloped. Include an overview and select accurate comparisons from both visuals.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic overall shape: an opening sentence, an overview introduced by “Overall,” and a final comparison. These markers help the reader recognise the intended stages of the report. However, the ideas are not developed into a clear progression, and the final comparison is vague rather than linked to specific salary bands. The opening also combines the chart’s destinations and the table’s salaries without clearly distinguishing the two visuals. To improve organisation, use separate paragraphs for the graduate destinations and salary table, then connect them with clear comparisons. Add linking language such as “By contrast” or “In the salary table” only where it accurately signals the relationship between the information.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “full time work,” “postgard study,” “salaries,” and “government workers,” so the general subject is recognisable. However, vocabulary is too limited and imprecise for describing the range of categories and salary comparisons in the visuals. Several spelling errors—“garduates,” “coures,” and “praivate”—also reduce accuracy, while “volume of salaries” is not a natural way to describe salary levels or distributions. Use the chart’s exact category labels and more precise reporting language, such as “proportion,” “salary bracket,” and “employment sector.” This would make the description clearer and allow more meaningful comparisons without relying on broad phrases such as “most money.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response communicates its basic points through short sentences, and “Overall, most of them did full time work” is a straightforward, understandable statement. However, the grammatical range is very narrow, with little sentence variety or use of structures for comparing data. The opening has a faulty construction: “The given pie chart illustrated that graduates … did” is missing a clear subject or object after “that.” There are also article and agreement problems in “an university” and “The least money earner are.” Practise accurate comparative sentences, for example, “The government sector had the highest proportion of employees in the top salary bracket.” Check sentence completeness, singular/plural agreement, and articles when editing.
